Inverloch Garden Club
10 - 11
Inverloch Garden Club went to the State Coal Mine at Wonthaggi on May 18, to see the Wonthaggi Seed Bank and Nursery which is situated at the site of the Mine.
The seed bank is operated by volunteers who collect and propagate seeds of plants which are indigenous to the Bass Coast area.
The seeds are cleaned and stored before propagation. The new seedlings are then sold to farmers and local Land Care groups to be planted on reserves and other areas. All proceeds are reinvested in local conservation programmes.
The following photos show the "igloos" which are used in the propagation processes of the thousands of seedlings.
A most interesting afternoon for all of us.
